MRS Receives New MSHA Certifications to complement their West Virginia Approvals

Since 1996 Mine Radio Systems Inc. has had MSHA certification on their FLEXCOM Leaky Feeder Communication System. With the new MINER ACT in the United States it is required that the communication system has to be able, not only
to carry voice communication, but also have the ability to provide the
last known location of all miners in the underground workings.

Mine Radio Systems Inc. has developed the INsite Asset Monitoring and Location System.  The system consists of Active Tags and Beacons as well as Web Based Monitoring and Reporting Software. The main advantage of the INsite system is that the INsite Inline Beacons (IILB) are powered by 12VDC that is already present on the leaky feeder cable; powering the FLEXCOM components in the system. They are installed in the same manner as all the other FLEXCOM components. This eliminates the requirement for separate power supplies for the tracking system.

All the equipment was approved by the West Virginia authorities in early August. The system allows the user the choice of two types of active tags. The first option is the IPT (INsite Personal Transponder) that is installed in the miners cap lamp and the other is the ISPT (INsite Self Powered Transponder) that has its own 3 year battery in an enclosure that the miner can clip on to their belts. The IPT is certified under MSHA approval number 23-ISA070003-0 for use with the Wheat LI-16 Electric Cap Lamp System with Tracker Assembly. The ISPT, being a stand alone device is approved under MSHA approval number 23-A070006-0.

All these products are available throughout the United States from your nearest United Central Industrial Supplies office; the exclusive distributor of Mine Radio Systems Inc.’s mining products in the United States.
